Her future looks bright until the night her beloved city is destroyed in the legendary Great Chicago Fire. Just as Zack finally begins to pursue the woman he loves, competition arises in the form of a hero from her past who can provide the help she needs to rise from the ashes.

Anomaly by Krista McGee

About the Book:

Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.

Decades before Thalli’s birth, the world ended in a nuclear war. But life went on deep underground, thanks to a handful of scientists known as The Ten. Since then, they have genetically engineered humans to be free from emotions in the hopes that war won’t threaten their lives again.

But Thalli was born with the ability to feel emotions and a sense of curiosity she can barely contain. She has survived so far thanks to her ability to hide those differences. But Thalli’s secret is discovered when she is overwhelmed by the emotion in an ancient piece of music.

She is quickly scheduled for annihilation, but her childhood friend, Berk, convinces The Ten to postpone her death and study her instead. While in the scientists’ Pod, Thalli and Berk form a dangerous alliance, one strictly forbidden by the constant surveillance in the pods.

As her life ticks away, she hears rumors of someone called the Designer—someone even more powerful than The Ten. What’s more, the parts of her that have always been an anomaly could in fact be part of a much larger plan. And the parts of her that she has always guarded could be the answer she’s been looking for all along.

Thalli must sort out what to believe and who she can trust, before her time runs out…

My Review:

WOW! I loved this book, easily one of my favorites from this year. As soon as I received it I dived in and was transported to this future world. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride with all the twists and turns it took.

Krista McGee weaves a fantastic dystopian YA title with a Christian view point that will entertain both teens and adults. This is my first book I have read from her and also her first book in this genre. She has written many other Christian contemporary YA titles but now is writing in this genre too and excels at it.

I loved all the characters in this book, I felt like I got to know them and was with them. I can not wait till book 2 and 3 come out, I just have to know how this is all going to work out.

I recommend this book to everyone it is that good. It will leave you thinking and wanting for more. Great job Krista McGee!

Rules of Murder by Julianna Deering

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Rules of Murder
Bethany House Publishers (August 1, 2013)
by
Julianna Deering

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

JULIANNA DEERING has always been an avid reader and a lover of storytelling, whether on the page, the screen or the stage. This, along with her keen interest in history and her Christian faith, shows in her tales of love, forgiveness and triumph over adversity. A fifth-generation Texan, she makes her home north of Dallas with three spoiled cats and, when not writing, spends her free time quilting, cross stitching and watching NHL hockey. Her new series of Drew Farthering mysteries set in 1930s England debuts with Rules of Murder (Bethany House, 2013) and will be followed by Death by the Book (Bethany House, 2014).

 ABOUT THE BOOK

Downton Abbey Meets Agatha Christie in This Sparkling Mystery

Drew Farthering loves a good mystery, although he generally expects to find it in the pages of a novel, not on the grounds of his country estate. When a weekend party at Farthering Place is ruined by murder and the police seem flummoxed, Drew decides to look into the crime himself. With the help of his best friend, Nick Dennison, an avid mystery reader, and Madeline Parker, a beautiful and whip-smart American debutante staying as a guest, the three try to solve the mystery as a lark, using the methods from their favorite novels.

Soon, financial irregularities at Drew's stepfather's company come to light and it's clear that all who remain at Farthering Place could be in danger. Trying hard to remain one step ahead of the killer--and trying harder to impress Madeline--Drew must decide how far to take this game.

My Review:

Rules of Murder by Julianna is a very well written mystery. The book is written in the style of the great mystery writers of the 1900's like Agatha Christie and many others. '

I am not really sure how I feel about this book, it was not a favorite and I felt lost at many times. I think having an understanding of how mystery's were written back then would help a lot. It did not have as much of the suspense and danger that I am use to reading, but had more clever and wit in it. I think many people who love the classic mystery would love this book. I will say it was nice to see something different in the Christian literature world.

Overall, this is a great book to read whether it is to try something new or to reflect on the classic mystery. Give it a try you  might like it.
